resolution revolution

So New Year's is HERE!  Crazy... another year under our belts, or at least in my case, over my belt.  Seriously, the Wii Fit told me that I had the body of a middle aged man!  Let's just say I've gained "a little weight" this year and one of my first resolutions is to shed those unwanted lbs.  It seems that this is #1 on most folks list - getting skinny under the disguise of healthiness - but I wonder what should be at the top of our lists.  While commercials yell at you to buy their diet products or exercise equipment, let these words from I Timothy 4 quietly register:  "Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly stories (legends or myths).  Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."

For believers, we know that outwardly we are decaying, but inwardly we are being renewed!  I need to repent of my past New Year's resolutions that were more concerned about my appearance than godliness.  I pray that this year "godliness training" would be more important to me than going to the gym.  Hey, I'm not saying don't go work out - I hope to see you at the hyper - but just remember that the value of godliness promises to outweigh and outlast the value of exercise!
